datsunaholic Posted April 21, 2015 Report Share Posted April 21, 2015 Well, if he wants a drop-in replacement it's a little harder than that. It's a NAPS-Z (unless it's a diesel) which means the only drop-in gearboxes are from a 81-86 720 or a 80-83 200SX. Otherwise, you have to take the gearbox apart and swap cases- which at that point you could just replace the broken bearings, because if it's worse than that usually the front case is shot too. datzenmike Posted April 23, 2015 Report Share Posted April 23, 2015 The '80-'81 will have the exact same mid ratio gears as your '85. The '82-'83 has a wider ratio set similar to the 720 4x4. Not saying it won't work. Put your speedometer pinion sleeve into the new transmission to keep your speedo accurate.
