What year is this???

I have a 1971 or 1972 510 goon and i'm not sure of the year. it says the production date is 7/71 and the vin#PL510-932967

Can someone answer this? I have no title and I need the correct year for my title application.

I don't know if it helps, but it has a dash clock in the right side pod of the dash.

7/71 would have been sold late 71 and possibly registered a 72 

but with 7/71 production date I would tell them its a 71 

also most 72 510 did not have a smog pump and 71 did

The state determines the year based on the FMVSS build date plate. They look in a book (or via computer lookup) for what month Datsun changed to the 1972 model year for the 510 model. You can put what you want on the application, but they can override it.

 

Most Datsun models changed model years between July and October.

 

By US law, a vehicle built on Jan 2 can be declared by the automaker to be the next year's model, but its not too common. The traditional changeover is October.

My info shows 510 wagon #927,564 starting June '71.... so a few months later than this?

According to that chart, a wagon built 7/71 is a 1972.

its weird that the production months for the sedan and wagon model are different months to make the wagon a  72  where the sedan would be considered a 71

Yes June/July '71 would be the start of the '72 model year.
