72gooner
When I got the car everything worked after I cleaned connections. Just the other day I was driving it and I was using the turn signals and everything worked great. But I noticed when I was driving back home the dash lights were not working and neither were the turn signals or brake lights. I checked fuses and they are ok. Head lights work and running lights work but no turn or brake lights. Any ideas or thoughts? I've checked fuses and all connections. I do not have power to the brake switch or turn signals but I do have power to the hazards. Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
Welcome, First of all can you give us an idea of what shape the electrical harness is in ? Has it been cut, spliced, or modified In any way, I.e. new radio, aftermarket lights of any sort. Pics of said wagon would be much appreciated Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Oil and ignition lights, E brake lamp, fuel and temp gauges are all on the same fuse. Replace it to be sure. Power to this fuse comes from the ignition switch in the ON position so look there if the fuse really is ok. Ignition switch plug loose, corroded or maybe just not working. Quote Link to comment
72gooner
the harness is pretty close to stock. The car had ac and there are a lot of wires that are unplugged or not plugged into anything at all. It does have an aftermarket stereo. I'll have to get u pics later. My photos are to large to upload. Quote Link to comment
Dolomite
I had similar issues with mine. Vinegar bath is your friend, douche the fuse box and any corroded connectors for at least 20min. I tossed my front side markers in there too. If you're comfortable with it, take apart your headlight switch and clean the contacts. As Mike said, replace all fuses, I was ready to tear my fucking hair out when chasing a blower motor issue. I remembered his advice about fuses that look good but aren't, changed the fuses and that was it. Sounds like corrosion issues to me, clean all contacts in those circuits and replace all fuses and check all bulbs. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Apparently the car also has after market gauges, so normal trouble shooting of a stock electrical system will be very difficult as who know what wires are disconnected or joined together. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
sometimes the solder joint under fuse box break Horn work? and brakes lights on same fuse I think. you ck with a meter to make sure 12volts on ther just cause LOOKS ok doesnt mean they dont break at the ends Quote Link to comment
72gooner
I put a test light on both sides of the fuses so I know I'm getting power to both sides and the fuses are good. I will definitely try cleaning the fuse box of corrosion. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
test light on both side fuse doesnt mean it makes it past the solder joint under the fuse box. if power is comming from the other way(if you know what I mean) MY brake light didnt work and horn didnt work I had no power. I traced back by the glove compartment back to fuse box the lifted the fuse box and solder joint under the was rotted and broke off Quote Link to comment
