Huntin720
Is this common? No one seems to have the right gasket for it and they argue with me that I must not be counting the bolts right. I'll post a pic when I get a chance but do I maybe have parts from a different model? Quote Link to comment
that-son
you mean like this? http://www.rockauto.com/getimage/getimage.php?imagekey=478355&imageurl=http%3A//www.beckcatalog.com/bin/images/Beckarnley/039/BA0390036-1.jpg BECK/ARNLEY Part # 0390036 Thermostat Gasket; 3 Bolt Hole Housing Quote Link to comment
JoeCool
You don't need a gasket, at least not the crappy leak prone paper! Use black RTV, it is all I have ever used on thermostats unless it came with a rubber O-ring. And I have worked on cars for 16 years. Quote Link to comment
Huntin720
Yeah that's the gasket. I know I can order it. I just was surprised that no local auto parts stores had one or believed me that it's the one I needed. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
They were on late 70s L20Bs and Z cars. The '79 200sx has them I believe. Quote Link to comment
Huntin720
So datzenmike does that mean that mine isn't original to the truck? Maybe the cylinder head is off of an older truck or 200sx? Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
They were pretty much used on 79-80 L20Bs and 79+ L24/L28s. So no, yours is probably original. I've had a couple late-late L20Bs (either 1980 ones form 720s or "crate" replacement engines, I call them the W-code block but basically they're a Z20S casting with the L20B machining) and most had the 3-bolt housing, whereas all the verifiable 78 and older ones had 2-bolt. 2 Quote Link to comment
