Cooper78b210
So the wire broke off right at the solenoid on the carburetor. I've repaired it before but now there is no wire sticking out of the solenoid so I could repair it again. Auto parts stores cannot find it so I'm kinda freaked out. I'm thinking I might be able to expose enough wire to maybe solder it back together again but does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me. I really want a new one but I might have to get one from a junkyard. Help! Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
It will idle if you take it out carefully and remove the plintle? The pointy thing inside. Quote Link to comment
Cooper78b210
Datzenmike are you asking me or telling me? I haven't tried removing the plintle and starting it..... I think there is enough there for me to solder a wire onto it. But I'm going to have to remove it anyway to get a good shot at it so.... if I remove the plintle, do I just cap off the wire that ran to the solenoid or ground it out somewhere? And what would be the pros and cons of removing this plintle? This is my daily driver so I need this done tonight.... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just to get you running and idling so you can use your car. There is a spring and a small needle or pointy thing inside the solenoid. If you remove it, and put the solenoid back, you will have fuel for idle until you can replace your broken one. Now without the idle cut you may find the engine 'runs on' or diesels when shut off. This is easily overcome by holding the brake on and lifting the clutch pedal just enough, while in high gear to load the engine. Shut the ignition off and the engine will quickly stall. If an automatic just shut off in gear, then place in park. Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
The solenoid is a hot (12v) wire. Do not ground it out. Put a vacuum cap over the plug until solenoid is repaired. Quote Link to comment

Sierra
I figured it would be better to revive this thread instead of starting a new one. Have anyone here have found the way to use the two-wire anti-dieseling solenoid valve in order to replaced the one-wire one? Is this possible? Mine does not work and I can't find a one-wire one. Here is what I am talking about. Quote Link to comment
