Eriks
Got a L18 with 219 head and thinking to install an Isky stage 1 or 2 to add performance. But honestly i have no experience with performance cams. In what ways can I expect any difference in performance? Appreciate review on these cams. All advices are welcome. Thanks. datzenmike
The engine becomes more bother to drive. Harder starting, balky idling and take offs, more clutch slipping on starts, torque comes in later in the RPM range and is somewhat lack luster at low speeds. Quote Link to comment

RTB
It all depends on how you drive and what you've done to the engine. If it is a stock l18 with the SSS head then you should stick with the stock cam. If you start upgrading with boring out, flat tops, etc, then it would make sense to get a larger cam. Only reason I increased my cam size was because I have a larger than stock displacement motor. The cam you have in the SSS head was designed exactly for that set up. Quote Link to comment

Of course you need more lift. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
If you drive flat out, full throttle high RPMs you won't have a problem with a 'big' cam. If you need good starting, idle and stop and go driving then dial it back. You can add a taller differential that allows the engine to rev higher in lower gears. This comes with even worse mileage but you could get an overdrive 5 speed to get some of it back. Better to have too small a cam and wish you had a larger one.... than too big a cam and wish you had a smaller one. 1 Quote Link to comment
