pros and cons of installing cam sprocket on #3 timing mark?

Unless it's a heavier vehicle or a low revving engine I would not advance it.

 

I had it set at the factory No 2 position on my LZ /720 truck then hit a hill at approx 2800RPM and noted the speed.

Came back and moved it to No 3 position and hit the hill again....same RPM

Gained about 4MPH up the hill

 

Swapped the LZ into the 510 and being that the car has so much torque...I  plan on retarding the cam (No 1) to gain some top end.

I think this would be more noticable with a bigger cam and carbs. or turbo motor

 

I could never tell between #1 and #2 running a weber DGV

Mikuni 44s with a stock W53 cam. Seems like #2 is wisest for now until I can read what DanielC posted
