mahi2010bv
I think thats what he's talking about? Would that work for that size of hole? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Sure would be worth trying. Get it clean and degreased and do it right in place. No need to remove it. Just don't let a lot of it drool down inside. Perhapes several small layers built up? Good idea! Quote Link to comment
mahi2010bv
Ok! That's sounds great I'll get the stuff tonight and focus on that. I'll keep you updated on the progress Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
JB Weld won't work for that. There is another type of expoxy that is used. Maldex or something like that. Quote Link to comment
mahi2010bv
I cleaned it up around the area still need to clean it more though. Ran out of degreaser need to get another can Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
JB Weld won't work for that. There is another type of expoxy that is used. Maldex or something like that. Thought it worked on most aluminum. Quote Link to comment
mahi2010bv
Ok so I cleaned it and sanded it, also applied the jb weld. my little problem is that some of it got in the housing as I was strectching over the hole. I pulled out what i could but I felt a bit to far from my reach. Now im thinking did I really mess the coolant system possible motor up? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Probably not. It will sink to the bottom of where ever it ends up. Hopefully it doesn't have to go past the pump. Mix the JB in very small amounts and apply a small layer around the hole edge. Let set up and mix and apply another slowly building up and sealing over the hole. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
In my experience-coolant and JB weld are a bad mix. Rarely have I had a good seal. Other fluids? Sure have. I'd remove it altogether. Find someone who can weld aluminum or replace with a proper cover. ALSO-the cover broke for a reason. Why? Where's the chunks we can't see? Better to just do it right the first time. mahi2010bv
Update- Well I JB welded it and took to a mechanic to get it done right. While there he told me that the hole was to big to be welded and started to call around but unfortunately was unable to find the piece while I was there. In fact what he told me that it might actually be hard to find it all together. So.. my car is now sitting at a mechanic shop and I'm walking... looked for the piece online but the only thing I find is on ebay. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Its one of the most common Datsun engine parts. Get it from a wrecking yard or from Nissan. Quote Link to comment
mahi2010bv
Hey guys, haven't posted on here in a while. I did get the car fixed, in the end had to buy the part and had the mechanic put it in. Part and labor cost me a arm and a leg but the car is up and running. Mechanic said the piece was to deteriorated to weld so new piece it was. Have another question now... as I was working on the car noticed where the left hand sway bar attaches to the car it has actually rusted so much that the sway bar in now hanging. In fact there is no frame to even attach the sway bar too. What can i do to solution this problem so the left tire doesn't fall off while driving or if I hit a pothole Quote Link to comment
0r0B210
What actually holds the wheel in position is the torsion rod and control arm. A bad sway bar means you will experience more flexing/roll during turns. The sway bar stiffens and strengthens your suspension during turns. I would just relocate the bracket as close as possible to the sway bar link. But, I am not a mechanic, nor suspension specialist. Just a Datsun owner on a budget. Quote Link to comment
0r0B210
Torsion Rod/Bar Bushings. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
That is called "Stabilizer Bushing". Best way to fix the rust is to have a body shop weld a patch panel. 1 Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
The rusty muffler cannot be welded. Quote Link to comment
