Gatlin_210
1982 210 wagon with a A15 , starts up great and Choke works great. After choke goes off it idled fine for a few then after a minute or 2 its starts idleing like Shit and running like its cammed up . Hard for me to get it back to a descent idle and tend to backfire a lot after this. An info would help . Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
A marginal coil causes this too. If it runs perfect above 2500 rpm, suspect the coil. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
To properly set the idle you must have the valve lash set properly and the ignition timing set properly. Find out where the idle speed and idle mixture screws are on your carb.ggzilla can help with this. Once fully warmed up, turn the idle speed screw up enough to keep it running but the less the better. Turn idle mixture screw in and out looking for the position where the idle increases and runs smoothest. Turn idle speed screw down as low as possible. Again turn the idle mixture screw in (leaner)until the idle stumbles, and then out (richer) until idle stumbles. Usually there is about one turn of the screw where it idles very well. Set about half way between the two. If idle went up turn it down again. Repeat this as many times as necessary to get the smoothest good idle at the proper idle speed for your motor. bananahamuck
If it just started doing this outta the blue and it's a stock hitachi.. Take your air filter off and grab top of carb,, if it wiggles separately from the base the bolts have come loose from the bottom. Quote Link to comment
