From King Rat:

Ask for any Datsun car '78 and up. All had the internal regulated alternator.

78-'79 200sx (S10)

'78-'81 HL510 (A10)

'78-'78 280z

'79-'83 280zx

'78-'84 810/Maxima

'80-'83 200sx (S110)

'78-210

If any of you have a Datsun, just go and copy this list, and store it somewhere you remember.

Yup. Both my 710 were external and nothing wrong with them. But I converted to KA 90 amp and an Altima 100 amp altenator. Way, way better lights, heater fan and wiper opperation. The fact they are internally regulated helpes too.

I don't know if this helps, but I got a plug-n-play voltage regulator bypass from Datsun Parts LLC when my old voltage regulator caught fire (that was kinda exciting).  Its just a little plastic connector with the necessary wiring inside.  I added a 65 amp, internally regulated alternator from a early 80's Z.  Works great so far, about 500 miles since installation.  I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures. . . .
