mhub91
I've got a 79 Datsun HLA10, L20 equipped w/ 4spd. I'm curious if anyone has ever ran s13 steering rack, front control arms, coils and the like on them? I'm considering making a long term project one-drift project and need a little input. Droppin in my ka24de inbthe next few months btw! Quote Link to comment

MikeRL411
Cars:'79 Datsun 510, '78 Datsun B210GX And just which vehicle do you want to commit this alteration on? Quote Link to comment
mhub91
First post says HLA10 ... '79 510  The reason behind this idea is that I've noticed that the L, Z, and KA series engine share the same crossmember (rear sump, that is) SO, what I'm wondering if, in theory, I could run S13 240sx front lower control arms on the HLA10 / L20 crossmember? And if the LCA would not fit on the L crossmember, would and S13 crossmember bolt in to place where the L xmember was so I could then run S13 LCA and coils?... is there an actual difference in the S13 and the L / Z crossmember? What about a steering rack mod for the HLA10 / L20 equipped? But then what about steering knuckles / spindle set up? Tie rod? Keep in mind I'm swapping my L20 for my KA24DE in a month or so. datzenmike
The reason behind this idea is that I've noticed that the L, Z, and KA series engine share the same crossmember (rear sump, that is) No they don't, the cross members are all different. Car motors tend to have a mid or front sump oil pan because the steering linkages cross under the motor at the back. Truck motors tend to have a rear sump with the steering in the front. SO, what I'm wondering if, in theory, I could run S13 240sx front lower control arms on the HLA10 / L20 crossmember? I think the S13 is wider than the HL510. Even just swapping the struts may not work. I don't know. More research is needed. Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Oops I meant to say L, Z and KA front sump share a common xmember? If I could mount a s13 xmember on my 79 510............ hm....... Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Excellent thought. Keep us up to date with your research. Do you have a thread for your KA swap? Isn't the shifter going to be too far back? Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Unfortunately this is not high on my priority list.... But one things come to mind about the s13 VS. The a10. .. McPherson strut and front upper control arms...... Hm. Some food for thought... better grab a buffet plate Quote Link to comment
mhub91
Oh... and no thread yet. I'm heavily contemplating Selling the FULL dohc swap to fund a built L20 Quote Link to comment
