datzenmike
The shocks won't stop you bottoming out if you remove leaves. You need springs that are flatter and at least the same spring rate. Stiffer is even better. Removing a leaf will only allow your already low vehicle to bottom out. Shocks are also called dampers. They resist (but do not stop) movement. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Again.... The rear end is held in position by the leaf spring pack and prevented from being forced from side to side on hard cornering. A single spring leaf won't handle that kind of load. Coil spring rear ends have almost zero lateral support so a panhard bar is used. If you are so low that you don't have 2-4" of travel before the axle hits the frame it's time to cut a notch in it. Then you can have stiffer springs and your shocks have some suspension travel to work with. Quote Link to comment
89irocz
For hauling each shock was rated at 8800 lbs or something crazy like that believe me your can still haul. I had 3 guys jump in the bed. nothing moved. I still have 3 leafs. Well it worked for me. I haven't bottomed out and I drive hard and there are speed bumps and pot holes for days here.
