LMorales.Pasadena
I'm going away to college in Nevada soon, and I want to upgrade my engine in my 510 to something reliable and can get me places fast. I know they're both fast but, which one is more reliable? Any opinions? What do you have in your ride? Quote Link to comment
Rotary510
My rotary = super fast, hard to start, hates the cold but REVS like a screaming little girl! MPG = LOL, I get 10 MPG if I am lucky on a 48mm Webber set up on a ported engine They are Reliable if you maintain all components and fluids. They like 20 weight oil and preferably synthetic. a Rotary will be more expensive in today's $$$ world than an SR20. I don;t think you can do a Rotary under $5,000 today much like an SR20. Piston engines like the SR20 have more aftermarket parts available. Most Rotary parts are super expensive. If you gonna push 250-275 HP like me, you better have $10k ready. Good luck buddie. datzenmike
Stock motor most reliable even if maintenance is not kept up. Will tollerate a lot of abuse and neglect. Easy to troubleshoot and get running on side of road with piece of fence wire and a rock. Try that on today's motors. 4 Quote Link to comment
Rotary510
I agree on that. Stock L series can be fixed with a wood stick, bubble gum and some foil. Not in today's technology. Well Said! Quote Link to comment
LMorales.Pasadena
I agree on that too but with the snow and all in Nevada I don't know how thing might be. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
sr20 swap is expensive and is going to leave your car down at least a few weeks in less you build all the parts a head of time . It took me and phill about 30-40 hourse to swap my sr20det in my 510 . and that was with out rack and pinion. but i do get 25-30 mpg that was with 336 in the rear end i am not sure what i am getting with the 390's. Tristin
I agree on that too but with the snow and all in Nevada I don't know how thing might be. More power isnt going to help you at all in the snow. Install an LSD, put on decent tires, and dont drive like an idiot... Quote Link to comment
spitznoz
what kind of ka do you have and what mileage you get out of it? s14 ka24de running rich at the moment not dialed in yet Quote Link to comment
Dat Lurka
The stock motor is the most reliable. You don't need power, you just think you do. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
510 with studs on the rear is so much fun in the snow Quote Link to comment
