damninhell
do i need my head machined or just get a new valve and lap it ? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I'd throw that head away. The seat is obviously bent. At the least it needs to be removed and another installed and ground to fit, new valve. The valve punched the head pretty good and there's a water jacket under there somewhere just waiting to leak. Have to ask for a picture of the piston top. Number 4 cylinder? Quote Link to comment
damninhell
piston looks fine, i had it filled with water and there didn't appear to be any leaks. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It may not leak.... but it might when torqued down and at operating temp. I would expect to see a large kiss on the piston top. Was the valve embedded in the head or did the motor just stop? Quote Link to comment
damninhell
there was a kiss, like a round mark on the piston, the motor stop, and i rotated the crank manually but it would get stuck just be few degrees fron TDC, i rotated the other way and it got stuck again. my guess was that the blown valve was keeping it from getting further. Dime Dave
WOW! That is about the least amount of damage I have ever seen when a valve lets go. I would think a decent machine shop would be able to check the head. If it is still intact structurally, have them remove the seat, repair the seat area and install a new seat and valve. I had an intake come appart, and yes I was able to have it fixed. Quote Link to comment
damninhell
found some pics before the paint job, you can see the indent. Anything I should know or need to be worried about? Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
It can be fixed. Replace the seat, valve and tig the hole.... but likely cheaper to replace with a used head. Quote Link to comment

Bug if your rich and want a machine shop to fix it Im sure it will help the economy. I got round port ex L head and posted it for 40$ and nobody wants it(Im not shipping it). You have a 79 so thats a round port exhaust most lilkey also Quote Link to comment
