mcmlxxxv
I need a front drive shaft section for my 510 will be 5 speed with a dogleg transmission Link to comment
datzenmike
The 510 has a one piece driveshaft. Do you mean the front spline that goes into the tail of the transmission???? The stock 510 spline will fit the dogleg transmission if you still have it. Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
so you need the trans yolk? 510 drive shafts are 1 piece so that's what i assume you are talking about. I have both, shoot me a PM if interested. EDIT: Datzenmike beat me to it. :0 Link to comment
mcmlxxxv
ok! well the driveshaft under mine was 2 pieces , probably modified by the previous owner ...so I assumed It was like that lol so yes I need the part that goes in the tail of the transmission If the driveshaft is 1 piece I would need to shorten the stock one ? mcmlxxxv
hum I think I need a complete driveshaft for a 5 speed  Link to comment
hobbes_the_cat
This is what I have. It is a stock length, manual trans, shaft with the trans yolk attached, so If you have a dogleg 5speed it will fit because the dogleg is the same length as a stock 4speed. The U joints still move but they were sitting outside for a while so I would replace em. let me know if this looks like it will work. Link to comment
mcmlxxxv
look like it would . how much you want for it ? my only worry is about the shipping ... Link to comment
datzenmike
Post some pictures of it and the rear end. A two piece makes no sense to me. Maybe something else was changed also. The 240sx had a two piece... maybe the 240sx rear end was swapped in? A bit of a stretch but better to find out. Link to comment
mcmlxxxv
Ok I will do this tonight . I will also put pics of the transmission . Link to comment
mcmlxxxv
sorry for the delay but here you go the rear end was the stock one so I didn't took pictures of it ... here is the transmission ... I noticed the yoke was in there so I wont need it length is : and then the driveshaft and the length of the long section ... I think I will need to modify to make it longer so I think I have all the sections I need , but if you can tell me the lenght of a regular driveshaft that would be helpfull Link to comment
datzenmike
I need a front drive shaft section for my 510 will be 5 speed with a dogleg transmission This is certainly NOT a dogleg transmission. The dogleg is only 26" long, this is 31.5" and appears to be a '77-'79 620 truck, 280z or first year 280zx 5 sped. (likely a '79 zx) The two piece driveshaft is probably from a 521 truck. It has the rear slip joint. Never seen this done before... anything's possible I guess. The left side is missing the companion part to the slip joint. Link to comment

datzenmike
ho ! nice to know ! so will I be able to fit that tranny there too ?? do you know how long the drive shaft need to be ? A FS5W71B in a 510 sedan. The driveshaft needed should be 37 3/8" long between U joint centers. As far as I know and to the best of my knowledge this is accurate. Have this verified by someone else. I have another transmission but no casing ... It's in perfect condition so I hope it will fit in this case It should. See the two large bearings on the right? If the bottom one is 56mm diameter that would be best. Also just to be sure the three shift rods should be the same diameter. Link to comment
mcmlxxxv
Ok ! yes the 3 shift rod are the same size :) I will measure the bearing tomorrow Big thx man !! this is some really helpfull information . Link to comment

datzenmike
The input bearing doesn't look like it's all the way on. Should be all the way back against the gear with a washer and snap ring holding it in place. . 1 Link to comment
