Help 510 Drum

i cant seem to get the drum back over the shoes. i recently change my wheel cylinder and now the drum won't go back on. any info would help thank you

Turn adjuster in a little bit.

turn adjuster in to give more room and you need to kinda bang the shoes around till they are centered. then the drum should go on.

Did that still won't go over. Could it be that my wheel cylinder is push out to far

Yes, push the wheel cylinder pistons in all the way

 

Then turn the adjuster WAY in.

Okay do I leave the bleeder open when I push in the cylinder?

Only if you want brake fluid to come out. Changing the brake shoes does not usually involve the bleeders.

I actually change the wheel cylinder and not the shoes

You can do it with the bleeder open or closed.

those shoes move around easily, up and down, make sure the backing plate isnt blocking the drum or folded over either.

Did you disconnect the e-brake first? Even with mine adjusted out so the cable seems loose, it isn't enough. With new drums, it'll still catch with brand new shoes.

I fought and fought, and fought and fought, then got the wild hair to just disconnect the cable entirely. Blam, drum went on without a hitch. With the adjusters all the way out, e-brake disconnected, it's almost impossible for the drum not to slip right on over like it should.

 

Remember once it's back in place and you've driven it a bit, to go back and inspect them to make sure everything is going well. Re-adjust as needed. Don't adjust with the e-brake cable.
