coolant spewing under dash

Recommended Posts

so my car has this dumb hose that opens up to the pside floor, ive always assumed it was a detatched piece to my non-op ac, so i never worried about it. so the other day my fan belt hose snaped, i drove it a couple of times before i relized it was gone. it drove warm never hot. anyway, i fixed the belt and now after drving for a few minutes my car starts heating up, then begins dumping coolant out the hose followed by a ton of steam. my first thought is a clogged heater core? maybe i can bypass it? i need my car for work, so im not opposed to a quick temp fix

loop the heatercore hoses for now, fix it when you have more time. What often happens is an overheat causes old rubber hoses to finally crack out all the way, or worn out heatercores to give up the ghost, I have witnessed it many times. I would expect the overheat was all that was required for the last bit to give way.

When you have time, pull the heater box out and find out what went wrong.

See the two hoses? One from out the back of the head and one from the lower rad hose area and just above the oil filter? Well, cut the long one as close to the fire wall as you can and hold up above the valve cover. Unscrew the gear clamp on the hose from the head and quickly connect the long hose to the outlet and clamp. This will keep you going while you figure out what to do about the heater.
