Mount a factory spare in your bed... $40 plus shipping has all the bolts you just drill four holes and bolt it up... Link to comment

The spares were mounted under the bed behind the rear end, no need to take space up in the box. There was an optional factory headache rack to protect the cab from the cargo shifting forward and an optional inner tailgate liner for '79 models.. Link to comment

sick620 Posted March 31, 2012 Author Report Share Posted March 31, 2012 datsun thought it as a needed upgrade as older potential buyers wanted a spare option that was easy for them... they wanted to be able to roll the spare out of the bed if they needed to fix a flat rather than have to bend over to get the one from out under the bed..... it was marketed towards the older market segment...
