So I Put The Stock 610 Reservoirs Back On

The Rod For The Pedal Is 1/2 Shorter Compared To 610

There Was Only A Few Threads Holding For Full Brake Pedal Travel

It Would Work But I Wasn't Sure If It Would Break If I Brake Suddenly

So I Whipped Out The TIG And Welded A Nut To The End

Retapped The Threads And It Works Perfectly

Got My NCRCAs

Soo Much Room For The Caliper Now

 

These Made My Steering Really Sharp

I Also Feel Like The Sway Bar Has Been Upgraded

No More Bumpsteer Either

It's So Nice Not Having To Hold Your Steering Wheel So Tight

It Probably Was Mine

The Whole Pass Side Of The Car

Is Pushed In ALOT From Previous T-Bone

To Me That Makes The Car Worthless

But Instead Of It Going To The JY

I'll Just Make A Functional Commuter Car

Decent Brakes - Done

Quiet - Looking Into Hushmat And Some Carpet

The Motor Needs Some Work

Does not look like there is major damage at all. Agree it is not flawless but certainly not worthless.

 

No worries, many 510's i've seen are not flawless at all. Many have been raced or got into accidents and yet end up in good shape.

 

If push comes to shove there are always good wagons around, with great bodies and not running for a token.

 

But your wagon does not seem to need such surgery.

A While Ago I Changed The Plugs And Cyl 1 And 4 Was Lean

3 And 4 Was BLACK, This Concerned Me So I Did A Compression And Leak Down Test

I Adjusted The Carb As Best As I Could Lots Of Times

The AFR Was Constant 18 At Best

When I Lower The RPM Under 800 The AFR Is At 30

Weird Thing Was When I Spray Starting Fluid At The Carb

It Dies As If It Was Really Running Rich

Timing Was At 10*

I Know It Is Not A Carb Problem Because

I Put The Carb On My Truck And There Wasn't A Problem

 

1 - Leaking 10% With 135 Compression

2 - Leaking 25% With 120 Compression

3 - Leaking 15% With 130 Compression

4 - Leaking 25% With 120 Compression

I Decided To Rebuild The Motor

Pulled The Motor Out

First Thing I Looked At Was My Headgasket

Still In Perfect Condition As I Replaced It When I Got The Car

On Another Note The Bearings Inside My TOB Were No-Existent

Burned Out Old Bushing And Cut Sleeves Out

Jet Washed Motor And Magna-Fluxed For Cracks

Now Here Was The Biggest Problem With The Motor

The Crank Had So Much Excessive Thrust

The Crank Bearings Were Not Even Placed In The Proper Place

I Was Having Tons Of Trouble Finding An Oversized Thrust Bearing

I Ended Up Having To Weld It And Have Turned Down To Spec

At This Point I Started Lining Up The Timing Chain Marks

Weird Thing Is At TDC My Timing Mark Is At 10 Degrees

I Removed The Timing Cover And Chain And Checked 3 Times

 

Maybe I Have The Wrong Mark Or Pulley

Maybe It Was Like This Before I Pulled The Motor

That Would Explain It Never Pinging At 25 Degrees At Idle

I Turned It Down To 10 To Be Safe Making It Really 0

That Would Explain The Previous Lousy Performance

I Measured It And It Has Been Cut .033

I Installed Two Set Of Shims And Align Honed

I Forgot To Measure The CCs

Runners Were Smoothed And Polished

Also Installed Aftermarket Springs And Retainers

That I Picked Up At Datsloco A While Back

Also Installed A Few Time-Serts

Gapped Rings, Adjusted Valves, New Chain, Tensioner, Guides,

Water Pump, KA Oil Pump, Fuel Pump, Fresh Gaskets Everywhere,

Clutch, Throw Out Bearing, And Clevite Bearings. All For A Solid Motor

Installed Motor And Mocked Up A Scirocco Radiator From My Truck

It Almost Fits But The Filler Cap Hits The Batt

I Would Have To Cut The Filler Neck

Then Weld It Back On Straight Up And Down

But That's A Project For Another Day
