Dogleg...how to bolt this to this

Ok...I'm sure this is a stupid question...but, I searched and it seems everyone elses bolts up, they just have to space the crossmember down...

 

But, how does the trans mount bolt to the crossmember? Do I have the wrong mount?

 

Btw, this is a dogleg 5 speed into a '72 510.

 

 

 

I can make it work by making an adapter...etc, but, I'd rather do it the right way.

You should be able to just oblong the 4 holes that bolt crossmember to car,, yours looks very beefy ....your upper trans mount looks different also ,,mine have all been flat ..like this picture but the trans would bolt where plate is..

 

This is not a 5speed ,,,,,,just showing difference in our brackets your dogleg should bolt right where plate bolts on..

I'm about to go from auto to dogleg, and am interested in information on the subject. It'll be my first really challenging attempt at being a mechanic. (I'm new and a weekend type of guy)

Carter Boad has a 5 speed X memeber you can buy and then you get a chevy spacer and should fit or a 280z spacer(i forget which one)

I am going to do dogleg swap in my 73 610 next week-3 speed auto has no reverse :(

Carter's cross member is only 75$ and can be reversed if you ever change to a long tail trans. My car came with a modified crossmember already but I will buy one of his if I ever need to do another trans swap.

Um I used the auto tranny mount, all of it. You need to run a 1 inch spacer to bring the back of the tranny down. Oh and the dogleg uses some weird T bolts... I lost those and just did something else like a nut up top and a bolt through the rubber part of the mount.

Its in there and attatched very well...its a solid mount, but...oh well. Not like this L20 has enough power to rip the car apart...lol

 

Also...how do you guys connect the speedo cable? Mines like running right into the crossmember and is hard as hell to connect.

Mine ran right into the crossmember as well. It took me a few tries but it fit eventually, just tight.
