Toyo Tech
Anyone have an idea of what lbs radiator cap to run on an 510 L16? I am gettting some leakage on the overflow hose after my 30min ride home.....spring feels weak, it is 40 years old... Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The normal type: 13.7 psi or whatever is normal. Same as american cars of the time. I would not run the Nismo cap as it is much higher, no point in stressing the parts. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Toyo, go to Autozone and get a sefety release cap. 14PSI and is only around $11 I think? I'll double check and get back at you. I love my car. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Yes, a Safety release is useful for removing the cap from a hot radiator. They Regular caps are safe too, but you have to wait until the engine has cooled a bit. You can buy a cap at any local auto parts store, or from Nissan. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
theres the pop off relief ones with the leve and the standard type I guess would use the overflow bottle. I cant remeber if 510s ever had them but I know it works good in my Cherokee. I just fill the bottle. Toyo best to change out the anti freeze and put 50/50 mix of the green stuff. Helps with cavitation on the front cover. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If replacing the rad cap get the newer type designed for use with an overflow bottle. This way if it over-pressurizes from heat soak after shutdown is will siphon back in when it cools down. No more topping the rad up every weekend and wondering where it went. Quote Link to comment
