Are there any major differences in the gas tanks from '76 to '79?

 

 

I may have found a perfect '79 gas tank for cheap that I'd like to use. It's on a long bed truck but mine's a '76 short bed.

 

 

And before you say it, yes I searched because I answered one question already

 

fyi~ there's no differences from the (78/79) standard cab to the king cab gas tanks.

'78 and '79 are bolted to the frame, earlier ones are bolted to the bottom of the bed.

 

Short bed tanks are 12 us gallon. The '79 is 17 gallon so unlikely it will fit.

Mike, do you have any pictures of the brackets used on the 78/79? I wouldn't mind making a few brackets out of some angle steel.

So, Mike, are you saying that with hardware and possibly the filler tube, it could be converted to work on the 76? I'm the one who looked at the tank, and called the Metalmonkey.

I'm pretty sure it will be too long by almost a foot and will hit the back underside of the cab.

 

Hitch measure the length and tel MM. He can measure the room he has.

 

 

I have an '82 long bed frame with KC body. The long tank for it has a notch in the front top to clear the cab. Because I have a 4 " body lift and tons of ground clearance I was able to use an '82 long bed tank. They are huge.
