makaofox Posted February 8, 2012 Report Share Posted February 8, 2012 Hey guys looked around and didnt find one solid thread about a whole entire poly urethane bushing install. Alot of the information is scattered, broken links, pics are dead, and apart from being scattered they focused on one aspect rather than the whole install. So im just curious is there a write up of someone doing a full poly urethane bushing install to their z? I have a 76 280z, so I know there are a few differences in other models. Any help would be appreciated, I know its not a super hard job but its nice seeing pics and reading about someones experience or any tricks they found making the install easier. Quote Link to comment
I'm BLUE Posted February 8, 2012 Report Share Posted February 8, 2012 Hi, Look harder :D Hybridz.org ... look harder and search there ... all has been covered ... read all rules there before posting as shits taken very seriously. Poky bushings are easy just time consuming. Torch drill bits Hammer assortment pipe assortment all thread and nuts/adajacent washers available Hydraulic press Wire brush cups on a drill. Screwdrivers ... punches ... etc Hacksaw just about anything to get things done ... There is really not that ... many polyp bushings to replace on an s30 ;) Word of caution ... do not use entire polyp set up on tension control arms ... look it up. Poly mustache bar bushings ... are a lot louder than oem rubbers ... i like the sound of gear whine ... some do not :D Good luck ... its all the same principle ... drill, torch, press, cut, all-thread method, etc ... whatever way works ... Use Poly lube ... or listen to squeaks lol ... its special ... Good luck Dtp Quote Link to comment

Like I said ALOT of the threads had dead pics and links :( Thats the problem when pics are hosted from another site. I mentioned I have found scattered threads but I just wanted to know if someone had a thread that did it all at once. After my search on hybrid I searched on here and there were not even 10 results haha. I appreciate the advise alot, I dont have a press but I have a vice? Ill make an effort to barrow one. Would you say there are certain bushings that are more important than others? Or should I just say F it and replace them all. My rear subframe is looking worn but the rack and pinion bushings look new. Im doing more more searching, if I come up with more info ill post. I will definitely do a write up for it when I start, to make it easier for searchers. Quote Link to comment

Like DTP said the best thing you can do is gather all the tools and get after it takes a lot of time. I am nearly done with the front suspension. I left the RC rod alone I will deal with that one later. I completely agree on the using TONS of lube don't skimp you don't want to listen to those squeaking parts.A bench vise can help with parts that you take off and can get to off of the car. Before I switched out my front suspension I changed my steering couple, and steering racks as well as my front sway bar. The front Control arm isn't that bad, just take my advice and get the old bushing pressed out of the control arm. I will have impressions on rear suspension hopefully in the next couple weeks that I will post about. Quote Link to comment

Its under suspension, should have all the information you will need. It really isnt too hard of a job to do, just takes a lot of time. For me at least. I found doing the front was much easier than doing the rear. If you don't have access to a hydraulic press to get the spindle pins out i would highly suggest taking it to a shop to get it done. Yeah it will cost you some money but i found it 100% worth it to not have to deal with the spindle pin hell. Good luck! Quote Link to comment

Posted February 10, 2012 Report Share Posted February 10, 2012 For the spindle pins, we put a lug nut on one end, hammered it until it wouldn't go any further, then used ratchet extensions and continued the hammering. But all in all, getting the whole strut assembly back into the LCA was by far the biggest pita. Lots of lube, a putty knife, and a lot of pushing. Aside from that, the rest of the bushings weren't a problem, FOR ME. Not saying it'll be easy for you too. Quote Link to comment
