jackassllc
Anyone know what oil and transmission fluid are best for my 320? Finally got my carb rebuilt and I am going to try and start her up after 25 years. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
You should prime the oil system before trying to crank it. Use a bug sprayer and a brass fitting in the oil pressure switch port, then pump it full of oil. That way you don't have to crank it with the system dry and wait for the oil pump to prime it. datzenmike
10W30 for the motor. Take valve cover off and pour it over the valve train and down the push rods. 80W90 GL4 for the tranny. Quote Link to comment
KELMO
As far as your transmission oil (assuming it is a standard) make sure you use API/GL4, don't use GL5. On my car (72 1200 4spd) i used the Sta Lube brand 85W90, sta lube part # SL24239 (Gallon) it was kinda spendy but what are you gonna do? Napa carries that brand in my neck of the woods. Engine oil I am using 20w50, but I don't know what is recommended for the 320 :( My $.02 edit: man those guys are quick Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
10W-30 is recommended for the 320. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
As far as trans oil, I've used GM Synchromesh in my L20B 4 speed. Pennzoil in the yellow bottle! You can buy it in an 80w-90 and it is confirmed yellow metal safe. From what GM told me about it, it IS a GL4 safe fluid and the only thing that makes it different from a traditional GL-5 is the fact that it's yellow metal safe, since some 90's GM 5 speeds use brass synchro's. ggzilla
Yep. An oil can meet both GL-4 and GL-5 specifications, it should state on the bottle. If it only says GL-5 then do not use it in a Datsun transmission. Or in a 510 wagon differential. Quote Link to comment
