hey i noticed that my slave cylinder fluid was black in the resevoir and i was wondering if this could effect the clutch?

It's just the rubber parts deteriorating. Brake fluid will absorb water out of the air and all brake fluid should be replaced every 2-3 years. I would open the bleeder on the slave and let drain out. Replace with new and bleed it.

And it probably will not come up clean. It's difficult to get it all out. But no worries it won't hurt it to be a little black.

Trick is to crack the bleeder and ....

let master fluid level get prettydang low before topping off again ...(with bottle in hand and keeping close eye on level ) ..

 

I usually let the level drop from full .... to near empty at least 3 times during bleeding process ... Not neccessary ... But it gets majority of black out ... And is my personal preference to do so ...

 

Typically ... I bleed my clutch and brake system on my datsun.... every 1-2 years

I opened my slave up and pumped the res empty. Flushed with new fluid until clear.

 

 

 

Fluid is CHEAP. Don't skimp on the flushing and bleeding.

I change my toothbrush every few months and never throw them away. Perfect for scrubbing the black goo out of the reservoir too. Rinse and spit it out.
