datzenmike
Sure that will work. I got mine for about $30. The best ones screw in and hold the reading until manually released. (a good reading should be 3 times what he got) Quote Link to comment
Npdavies.
We got around 120 the first time before I reread the instructions. It says completely depress the accelerator pedal and crank the engine for around 8 rotations. And make sure your coil is disconnected. But to answer your question, as Datzenmike did, yeah it looks right. Good luck! Hope your compression improves. :P Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
120 is OK, as long as all cylinders are within 15% of each other. Some gauges read lower than others... Quote Link to comment
sekkyoshi
ok, thx! i wasnt sure if i had it set up right. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Setup: 1. Take out all spark plugs 2. Unplug the distributor or coil Then just Crank it until the gauge stops going up. Usually takes 4 or 5 revolutions. Watch the gauge if possible. You don't need to open the throttle, it makes no visible difference. Quote Link to comment
racerx
yeh, you don't need to open throtle, engine is not supposed to be running, just crank it like maybe 3x till you see the needle on the comp. tester stop. The screw in types are better, perhaps mroe accurate. I have both. I even think you don't need to take all of spark plugs off just one at a time. Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Actually.... having the throttle/choke wide open adds about 5 percent plus on the readings. Every little bit helps... :D Removing all the spark plugs is easier on the batt/starter....no compression to deal with Quote Link to comment
racerx
Okay will try that next time... Quote Link to comment
