zed
The old mechanics say 'never assume' when working on a motor... I had to tow a 2.5 ton trailer 1000 miles this weekend - a real nightmare with only an L18. The motor kept losing power, then dying. Then it would start again after a minute and run ok for miles. Because the power loss was gradual, with no jerking at all, I assumed it was a fuel issue. The plugs were also sooty, and I was getting bad gas mileage. I swapped in a new needle and seat. No improvement. Then I swapped in a good coil - still no improvement. Took me way too long to think of the condensor. Swapped in a new one - fixed. It was a new condensor that failed, and I've never had a condensor go bad slowly like this. The sooty plugs were probalby caused by weak spark. PS: L18's are awesome motors - on this trip the temp gauge never went above 170F - even on long hills pulling in 3rd gear - with that huge weight behind Quote Link to comment
