elmerfudpucker
Grab a can of carb cleaner or WD40, small squirts around the cab and see if you got a leak. Check hoses and listen for leaks there too. Quote Link to comment
I'm BLUE
Check ignition timing as well ,,, Check fuel filters/fuel lines,,, Valve adjustment lately ? ,,,, Quote Link to comment
racerx
what about your dwell? when you say won't idle below at 800, does this mean it dies below that? start with base line carb set-up again.. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Need more data! Always start with timing, which is the foundation of good tune 1. Set the points dwell using a dwell meter (or buy new points and gap with feeler gauge) 2. Set static timing Or do a compression test. That'll tell you if there is a mechanical problem. After this, you tell us what the results are. Quote Link to comment
datsun120y
the dwell is at 50 as seen in the video timing at 10 degrees and if you go below 800rpm the engine will die in drive also the engine is rebuilt few months ago so compression is at 165psi! valves were adjusted last week! thanks! ggzilla
Excellent. The next step is to diagnose the vacuum reading. Here's what the Datsun service manual says: Quote Link to comment
datsun120y
hi i just went to check for vacuum leaks and i found that on the manifold were it gets bolted to the head i sparayed starting fluid and the engine would start to die then i tight the bolt more and now i cant tell i difference when i spray fluid around it but i got it to idle lower but the revs still moves up and down! is the exhaust manifold and inlet manifold face supposed to be level to each other when they are connected to the hotbox and its not on the head! because when i bolted the both manifolds on the hot box the face of each manifold wasnt flush the inlet face was a bit further back! does this sound normal or should the faces be level?? thanks!
