I connected my tach per the diagram.

 

 

I no longer have a ballast resistor.

 

So where do I connect these?

I removed the ceramic resistor after I switched to the matchbox setup.

stock tachs are inductive pickup.

 

 

wire them in series on the + side of the coil. (just erase the resistor from the schematic.)

 

reverse them if the tach goes backwards :unsure:

Datsun wired the inductive tachometers to the + side of the coil feed.

But apparently they work the same if you wire them into the - side.

 

The + side is already under your dash. The - side is not there from the factory (it's only under the hood).

Ok , I'll try both ways. Not sure if I'll get to it tomorrow after work. Gonna be a scorcher outside :(

Mine is wired to the negative side of the coil. Just disconnect the wire going to the negative side, hook up on of the wires from the tach to it and then hook up the other wire from the tach to the negative coil post. If it doesn't work, reverse the 2 tach wires. I have done quite a few 4 wire tach installs and all of them are wired this way.

Success! I tried ^^^ the method quik510 uses.

 

The cluster looks so much better with the tach there.
