BACARDI_DWB
Well my project is mid stage, I was about 1/2 way through my project before I ran out of money and could not finish (New House, New baby, New job). I had decided to put my Datsun on the back burner until I paid down a lot of my bills. Well I went from owing $48k to now only owing $10k. Now that my bills are in order and I have some extra money, I feel its time for me to get back on my Datsun and get it done for as cheap as possible. Previously I was going to put in some super expensive coilovers, and build out my CA18DET to the moon, pretty much a build that would never get finished. This plan I am coming at it now is actually obtainable, and I will be able to drive it with only a little more time and money. Before it was going to cost me at least $15k to get it on the road. I am going to try to get it running on the road for under $1500 Current Status: 1970 Datsun 521 Pickup Frame modified to take Miata rear subframe and Front subframe to include all suspension and brakes Plan: KA24DE Carburated 5 Speed Inventory: Troy Ermish ka24de matchbox mechanical Distributor R1 Carbs KA24DE with 98k miles on the clock 5 Speed tranny Missing: raceland Miata Coilovers Miata Rear Differential Miata Axles Brake Line Fuel Line Electric Fan Intake Flange (to make intake manifold for carbs) Exhaust Flange (to make exhaust header) KA24de rebuild kit (to freshen the motor up) White bunny clutch kit $100 Rattle Can Paint Job Rebuild kit for miata calipers Wheel Bearings for all 4 wheels Rotors for all 4 wheels Fabrication required: Fabricate the front coilover mounts to be solid to the frame Fabricate the intake manifold to mount the R1 Carbs Fabricate the Exhaust header Fabricate the rear sump oil pan for the KA24DE Finish fabricating the firewall and floorpan of my truck I have roughly $1500 cash to buy what i need to finish the truck, and whatever I sell can also go towards me finishing the truck. Items for Sale: CA18DET Head CA18DET Block (magniflux'd and line bored) CA18DET Oil Pump CA18DET gasket kit JE Pistons for CA18DET Pauter Rods for CA18DET Intake Manifold for CA18DET Stock Exhaust Manifold for CA18DET 6 puck clutch for CA18DET Lightweight flywheel for CA18DET knife-edge'd crank for CA18DET (needs balancing) I am kinda stuck right now because I am stuck in Afghanistan thinking about my truck and the fact that I can not do anything to push my build further. I am having my brother be my hound dog to round up parts that I find on craigslist. I can not wait to get home and start working on my project so I can finally drive it after watching it sit for 2 years in my side yard. I wonder where you where. But the Datsun is in the same state it was as the 510 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!! just get it running !!!!!!!!!! L motors are EZ and just keep it that way Hainz, I don't want to hear it, so I will tell you what you want to hear, You were right, should have left it how it was and just ran the crap out of it. I was trying to make things way to complicated and I see that now. I am thinking SUPER simple, KA24DE is simple, Carbs are already sitting in my garage and super simple. and I picked up a matchbox distributor for the KA24DE. I found an awesome deal on a KA24DE so I am not going with the L Series. Ryan Quote Link to comment

DanielC
Normally, I would want to see the pictures also. But this guy is in Afghanistan. I am pretty sure he would rather be close enough to his Datsun to be able to take pictures of it. Ryan, thank you for your service. Be careful over there. Quote Link to comment
BACARDI_DWB
I have some very out dated pictures When I brought her home Tearing her down Part way through the build, the rear Subframe out of the miata is mounted and the front subframe is welded. Engine mounts and rack: progress still (frame was fitted with CA18deT at the time) Rear shock mount: Rustproof'd frame: and that is where i am at when I left Quote Link to comment
