Sealik
120K???? That's a pretty fresh engine... ;) ... :D Could be the timing chain you are hearing. Check for chain stretch. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Also check the alternator bolts(bottom ones). They'll make a rattle if they're coming loose. There are alot of pieces that will make suspicious noises if they're not fastened down, so do some searching around. Quote Link to comment
darrel
Try to narrow it down using a stethoscope or a piece of rubber hose. Not familiar with the electro injection, could it be injectors? Another thought would have to be the exhaust manifold, loose or broken studs holding it on. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Check and set the valve lash while the engine is hot. Quote Link to comment
privateer
OK checked all the bolts, and i had set the valves to .012 when it was hot per the hood sticker, was wondering if it was an injector pump,no injectors as it has throttle body injection how can i check the timing chain? i know the earlier models had the tensioner by oil pressure, and it sounds most like the chain i think!! greybeard
The Timing chain set is just like an L series with the tensioner in the same place. guides are a little different, once you see it you'll know what to do. Quote Link to comment
HRH
Z24 electro injection uses two dribblers, just like a Chevy TBI. 104 hp when new, 8.6:1 compression. Gutless they are, but quite reliable and make good torque. Check valve lash and chain stretch as suggested above. Quote Link to comment
