Wiper motor and switch - '79 620

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a 79 pickup and the wipers won't park and have no intermittent. Beleive PO installed older wiper motor to cause this situation. Needing a correct motor. The switch is not in the best condition would also like to replace. Any info. about swaps would be helpful. I have quite a few 510 parts that could work a trade.

thanks

All 620 wiper motors were the same after Feb '77. The wiper motor has nothing to do with intermittent wiper system. The park circuit isn't working for some reason.

In the OFF position the Yellow wire and the Blue wire (at the wiper switch) are effectively connected together to keep the wiper motor running until it is parked. Now the motor end could still be at fault but you mention the switch being iffy. If you can get at the switch or take the dash cluster out to get at it, jumper the Blue and the Yellow wire with the key ON and the wiper should PARK.

You can install a none intermittent switch to see if you have a motor problem. You just wont have intermittent that way.

Is your truck supposed to have intermittent? It was only an option on 79 KC trucks..Not all of them got it. Do you have the delay box mounted on the passenger kick panel?

And dont throw a intermittent switch away. Even a dead one-send it to me for parts.

Ya, You'll pay postage to throw it away for him right???

If you need a new wiper switch for your truck, I have a non-int. switch for you. I think I have a motor too.

Once again thanks, I got it working messing with the relay on the kick panel. But, I still need help to find parts for the the dash switch. It has a "fiber optic switch". The knob, nut and chrome nut are missing and I want to replace them. I am willing to buy/trade for a complete switch to replace the missing parts.

Do you have a picture of your switch? Does the wiper switch have the short or long fiber optic cable? I have a few switches but I want to make sure the right knob goes with the right switch.

Here are pictures of my switches. The wipe/wash switch has a short FO lead. While I was getting the wiper switch out, thought to poke around and check all the switches. Seems my lights switch got quite hot at some point and melted the plug together, had to cut it up just to get it apart. Need that too. It has a long FO lead. One more thing I also need the heater knobs.
