Sparks
i have a 77 620 and am having trouble swapping the lower control arm. the pin that connects the lower control arm to the hub doesnt seem to be able to come out. i noticed there was a stud sticking out with a nut on it that i thought was keeping the bolt with two threaded ends in place. i attempted to remove the stud but ended up hacking it up. i need some help with how to disassemble these parts so i can install my straight control arm on my truck. misspelled the title i see. kingpin lower control arm it should say Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The stud with a nut on it is really a form of cotter pin that has to be driven out before the lower fulcrum pin will come out. Quote Link to comment
Sparks
how do i go about driving out that pin? i have it soaking right now with penetrating oil. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
You should be able to take the nut out and drive it out with a brass drift. Be carefull of the threads. Quote Link to comment
Sparks
thank you for the advice and the picture. i ran out of daylight to put the straight control arm on but was able to remove the bent one. those curbs seem to come out of no where in the rain Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
anyone know the correct name for those tapered pins??? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
You will likely have to replace the cotter pin so don't be shy hammering it out from the threaded end. Try heating the pin . Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
hopefully the kit you have will have new pins. Mklotz had a part # for new ones from nissan but I dont know if still avail. these are hard to get out with out destroying the threads I removed my axles and and had machine shop replace it with the kingpin kit i had. It was still 250$ Quote Link to comment
Sparks
it would be nice having a kit for this but all i have is a parts truck. i was able to remove the tapered pin with a little heat and ran out of daylight before i could get it all put back together. its going to be tough getting the pin back in without damaging the threads. datzenmike
The lower fulcrum pin has a flat spot on it that aligns with the bottom of the king pin. Once ligned up slip the cotter pin in and tap gently until the threads are showing. It'll be fine. 40023 B5000 is the Nissan Pt. No. for the cotter pin. About $4, or just get from a hardware store.
