ariascarlos1990
That pulley comes off the water pump. put some washers in there to pull it away from the motor. Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
all L seires water pumps fit on the front covers. Just some are different . I assume you have the correct pulley with that water pump but might not be lined up for a early L16 set up. But Im only guessing. I use only the 510/521 water pumps. Unless there was a factory spacer that I dont know about. Quote Link to comment
GOLSETH
Well, Im not sure what is wrong but im going to look at an L16 tonight to compare pulleys and water pumps. i think i have the wrong waterpump... thats the only thing i can think of. The crank and alt line up and sit in front of the water pump pulley so spacing the crank and alt would only make the gap worse and seeing as Nissan/Datsun never put a spacer on the water pump pulley its got to be the water pump itself right? who knows when youre dealing with something from the age of FUNK! Thanks for the fast replies and input guys! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I understand the 280z/zx water pumps have a different pulley location. You need a 4 cyl water pump pulley. Quote Link to comment
dat521gatherer
whats the full story here. you replaced the water pump and retained your original pulley? or you got a new pump with a pulley and got rid of your old pulley? Quote Link to comment

A spacer under the pulley would move it forward into alignment. The pulley is bolted on and is likely the wrong one. Quote Link to comment
GOLSETH
Thanks. I understand that I could put a spacer on the water pump pulley but don't really want to. It never came with a spacer from the factory so I want to do it right. The way it was originally built. And the story is I just bought this truck in the beginning of December and I don't know shit about Datsuns or L16's. I got a water pump off another L16 tonight so tomorrow after work I'm going Yo swap them and see how it looks! Thanks for all your help guys! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Only the pulley. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
A long time ago Ihad order a 240 Z water pump.Bigger casting come to find out my 510/521 pulley would not fit the 240 pump. the 4 holes were off. so I guess there is a difference. But all fit on a L series motor!!!!! L motors are EZ. If you cant handle it. its a sign of your manhood,Dont rush! 1 Quote Link to comment
GOLSETH
At last I got to work on my truck today! Turned out to be the wrong eater pump! Tomorrow I'm picking up a new gasket from the dealer and throwing it on! Get to drive my Datsun again! Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
O rileys has the Felpro front cover kits/intake ect..... or you can get them single Good gaskets.I use them all the time get sparesI dont use sealent. if I do its a bare minimum Quote Link to comment
oakrun
reviving an old thread because i found another alternative to the spacer behind the pulley. The SOHC KA pump pulley from the hardbody will corrrect the alignment problem if you are using an L6 water pump on an L4. Quote Link to comment
