Hey, darslamd,

I had the 620 one apart and it can be put together with the sector shaft installed, but better it it's out. To remove the pitman arm I first remover the large nut and lock-washer and used a ball joint separator (pickle fork). I gave it a few smacks to seat it between the arm and the steering box housing, and then heated the arm around the spline with my propane torch until the grease began smoking, and with a couple more good smacks, it popped off. The column with its bearings and shims can easily be installed now with the sector shaft out. There is a seal in the housing just above the arm...REPLACE IT!!!

Once off you'll see that there are only four possible positions you can put the pitman are back on. Just turn the steering wheel into its mid way or center position and put the arm on facing backwards(?)

Did you down load the manual.. it helps.

BTW datslamd,

I bagged your nut, should be on the bus this Mon AM, (forgot they 're closed)

Sector shaft seal I guess LOL. Or lower steering box seal. Seriously it goes into the bottom part of the housing just above the splined part on the sector shaft and keeps all the oil in the box, amd the dirt out. You don't want this leaking later.

Hey Tyler,

The splined pitman arm mates to the bottom of the splined sector shaft and is held on with a large nut and lock washer tightened to 100 ft lbs.

The spline is tapered and the arm looks like it isn't on all the way but as long as the nut is tightened, it's fine. Once it is on, it requires a gear puller to get it off.
