erikmendoZa03
so today i changed the hoses of my Z, after successfully changing the hoses i drove the car for 30 minutes, when i got back home i let it idle,it was idling for a few minutes and i noticed the RPM just drops so i reved it then it was fine then i let it idle but the RPM dropped again, then and it turned off, after that the car wont start anymore, im sure its not the starter, i know i used the right hoses, i cant figure out what could be wrong, need all your advise thank you! datzenmike
What hoses, like rad? vacuum lines? Go over them all looking for something loose, fallen off or something that was dislodged when changing the hoses. Be sure they were put back on it the correct place. Quote Link to comment
erikmendoZa03
i changed my fuel filter, and the hoses for the fuel filter and the other hoses for the fuel line, not really sure what their called, Quote Link to comment
erikmendoZa03
hi datzenmike i double checked the hoses for placement. every hose is secure and in the right place. i tried to start the car, but it still fails to go thru. Quote Link to comment
Guest 510kamikazifreak
Did you put the filter on backwards? Does it have fuel? Quote Link to comment
izzo
id guess fuel lines were backwards, or maybe the filter was backwards... Quote Link to comment
erikmendoZa03
hi h2theizzo im sure all are in the right direction. Quote Link to comment
izzo
Cool man, just a suggestion lol. i've seen people hook up the return line to the fuel feed line, and it would run for a while, then puke and die. Good luck on it tho! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Back to basics.... Hainz once said " L series are easy. If you have fuel and spark they will start" Pull a plug wire off and put a screw driver in the end, hold near valve cover and crank. Should have spark. Because you had the fuel filter off I would suspect a fuel delivery problem. Pull fuel line off of the pump on the carb side and see if it pumps fuel into a container. Watch out it really shoots out when working. Quote Link to comment
Skib
go back to what you changed, unless you hit something on accident the problem is with your fuel filter. does the filter have gas in it and is there fuel getting past the filter. dont ever assume, always actually go and check ;) Quote Link to comment
erikmendoZa03
hi skib the filter has gas, but how can i check if the gas is getting pass it? Quote Link to comment
izzo
pull the line off after the filter, put it in a bucket or something, turn key on for a second. should shoot gas out. may wanna pull it off right at the carb/fuel rail and check it there. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
It will only flow if it siphons out. There isn't an electric fuel pump on the early Z cars. Because you had the fuel filter off I would suspect a fuel delivery problem. Pull fuel line off of the pump on the carb side and see if it pumps fuel into a container. Watch out it really shoots out when working. Quote Link to comment
erikmendoZa03
ill give that a shot tomorrow, but what if it works? whats the next thing to check? and if it doesnt work what should i do? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well if you are getting fuel to your SUs it should start. Remember you need fuel AND spark. Check for spark. I think the filter would work either way. After cranking with the chokes on can you smell gas in the tail pipe? Quote Link to comment
erikmendoZa03
THE Z IS BACK!!!! thank you all for the advice! so this is what i did. i checked for sparks, and sparks was shooting out. pulled the line out by the filter and no gas was coming out, so i gave the car a blow job (first time and im glad its with my Z hehehe) still, no gas was coming out, the line wasnt air tight so i re-tightened the clamps. and sucked on the line until gas squirted (now i know how 91 grade tastes like) reconnected the lines and restarted the car, with no luck.. so i pulled the other line by the carb and sucked on it. reattached the line and cranked the engine. it took 6 seconds of cranking then ZOOM! it started.. :) thank you very much for the advices datzenmike, skib and h2theizzo! p.s gasoline can definitely get you buzzed.. banzai510(hainz)
most filters are before the fuel pump. to ck the out put pull the output of the fuel pump hose. point in safe direction ans start car gas should shoot out like a mofo!. if car sits for awhile the pump takes a bit to get sucksion Quote Link to comment
