reverse light issue

its not a switch or wiring issue. i need to figure out how to fix the issue. its in the trans and i would like them to work. whatever actuates the switch, isn't. ideas???

is this a 4 or 5 speed?

short tail 4spd. and no $$ to slam a short tail 5spd or even a more common long tail in it.

thats what i amt hinking i am gonna do. i jsut dont want one thats out in left field ya know. adn i dont want to drill my dash if i dont have to.

The switch in the transmission is moved by the shifter rail internally.

But the switch may be just burned out. Unplug the wires and check it for continuity (OHM meter or test light) in reverse, and no continuity in any other position. You may find the wires just fall off, and there's your problem.

the switch is fine. if i have it out i can actuate the switch and it works so its inside the trans. time to take it apart.

The reverse light is the bottom of the two black knob things sticking out of where the tailstock meets the main body of the transmission. Anyone with a Datsun has one of these 4 speeds laying around in the back yard. Ask around and someone will send you one. As stated, if the plastic cover is loose the weather will get at the copper and erode/corrode the wires off.

maybe your switches are in the wrong holes/ wires going to the wrong switch.

you should be able to put your ohm meter on the switch while its in the trans and stick your shifter in reverse and see if it works.

 

check for power at the reverse lights.
