sssr20det510
ok so i was reading on the realm about this swap what do you guys think? http://www.the510realm.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4346&hilit=240sx+coilovers So as far as what coilovers to use looks like he used megan and 8kg spring rate. So how many pound springs are those 8kg is 17.6 lbs ??? Quote Link to comment
slodat
Arizona Z Car sells a setup already sorted out that is the very same concept. Quote Link to comment
sssr20det510
I saw that but i was looking to do it myself and save some money there are a ton of 240sx out there so i figure i can pick up a good used set at a decent price Quote Link to comment
slodat
It looks cool. Not sure it is at all necessary. I was very happy with my GC front coil over setup with T3 camber plates and bearing upper hats... Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
8kg is 17.6 yes... but it is kg/mm. SO 17.6 x 25.4 gives you 447lb/in I did this with a set of tein super drifts a while back for my 510. They ended up in an AE86 instead. People think these high spring rates are ridulously high. Right now I have 400lb/in springs in the front on my 240z and it feels good. Not bone jarring at all. Tire size is a big factor when considering spring rates. Mine are 205-60-15. The AE86 guys seem to prefer 7-8kg/mm front and 5-6kg/mm rear. Those are light cars too. If you're gonna do s13 rear, I'd recommend converting to a dual shear lower mount. The stock single shear setup is probably too weak. Another thing to consider is that some manufacturers use aluminum lower sleeves, the megans are steel which you can obviously weld. The teins I had were steel too. Edited November 13, 2009 by zuum510 Quote Link to comment
yellowdatsun
He was originally asking for 280ZX, although I'm not sure what car he wants to put these on.....but the AZ Z Car setup is for the 280Z, not the ZX. Quote Link to comment
Cuts metal like mad
280zx struts in his 510... Quote Link to comment
jesusno2
I have a set of honda coilovers I'm going to use on my goon got them for 20 bucks at the junkyard. Only problem with the honda stuff is I had to bore the indide of the sleeve to fit over the zx strut tube and I still need tophats for them. Worked out for me but if you don't have a lathe of acess to one your better off just buying some that will fit. Anyone got topa hats for 2.5 springs?? Lol Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
how much did you bore ? Quote Link to comment
jesusno2
Its not much like 20 thousands I think, I don't remember honestley. It only took a few min once I got the boring bar setup. Quote Link to comment

The arizona z car setup will work on ZX struts just fine, even in a 510. That is the setup I had planned on using. I had talked to Dave about it a few times. Of course the rear is a different story. sssr20det510
ok so ive been digging around on the s12 forums because we can use the s12 struts in the 510 for an upgrade i was wondering what they do for an upgrade, there big upgrade is swapping the whole front suspension from a 240sx lower control arm spindle and coilovers and there rear suspension is similar to ours as well megan actually makes a kit for the s12 with 240sx suspension swap. Its basically front 240sx coilovers and rear is modified to work with there rear suspension so i think it might work with ours as well. i was just thinking about how much cheaper some stuff is adjustable tc rods 70$ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/240SX-S13-S14-S15-PILLOWBALL-TENSION-ROD-ADJUSTABLE-RED_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem19b574ce4eQQitemZ110418513486QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories adjustable lower control arm 155$ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/godspeed-90-91-92-93-240sx-s13-front-lower-control-arm_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3efa016305QQitemZ270482367237QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories megan coilover kit 879$ front and rear with camber plates http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Megan-Street-Coilovers-200sx-s12-with-s13-front_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c0c7465adQQitemZ120468039085QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories so 1104 total plus whatever you can pick up 240sx hubs and brakes now lets add the datsun 510 stuff up tc rods 200$ adjustable lower control arms 180$ i believe. camber plates 200$ front shocks 150$ front coilovers 200$ rear coilovers 560$ so 1490$ plus 280zx struts and brakes the 240sx swap is looking pretty good to me Quote Link to comment

PM Icehouse if your serious, he's been talking about doing it for a long time. Have you seen everything he HAS done? Yeah, if it was even remotely straight forward, he'd have done it by now. sssr20det510
i figured it would be fully adjustable so you could make it not too much wider Quote Link to comment
slodat
i figured it would be fully adjustable so you could make it not too much wider It is no where near that simple. You will not be saving ANY money with the setup you listed above. Time alone, let alone the fact that you will have to do all of the engineering. This falls into "if you have to ask, you shouldn't do it" category.. Quote Link to comment
sssr20det510
I have heard of a few 510s with the whole suspension swap but cant find any pics or write ups on it Quote Link to comment
dat510sss
Arizona Z Car sells a setup already sorted out that is the very same concept. I do think the front coilovers fram Arizona Z-car got the dampening adjuster at bottom, the Megans is on the top. I would buy a kit from Dave if it was on the top. -Richard Quote Link to comment
