Nice140Y
Okay guys, I am a newbie and I would like to switch to EI on my 1969 510 automatic. What is the first thing I need to do and how much work is involved in this? What are my options as far as distributors go? I live in Canada and I hope this will help me with cold starts. Thanks. banzai510(hainz)
is this a single point distributor? If yes a Pertronix 1741 kit will work and you can still use the stock coil and ballast resisitor the later 70-72 dual point distributors will not work with the Pertronix kit. Its only the 68-69 or SSS single points. There are seom other L18 single points Hitachi and later Mishibitshi import single point and L20b single point if Ring is removed on the dizzy shaft. So this looks like a relatively easy fix. Where do you get these kits? Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
best for u is find a place in Canada or your local parts store nd see what the price is . about US$70-75 is all I would pay pop open the cap and see if you have 2 points or only one. If you dont know you better learn. Maybe this could be a proplem. Alot of early Jap cars go bad cause younger kids dont know How to set points. olddatsuns.com look the 620 tech section Edited October 29, 2009 by banzai510(hainz) Quote Link to comment

banzai510(hainz)
420n620 Pac coast did a writeup on this using the 78 EI 620 distributor. I dont know the exact year vut off but I assume its the 1st generation Nissan EI ignition your talking about and using the GM ignition module. People sell the EZer to install matchbox for about 50$ and would be the best and EZest install if mount and timming plate is included. and get a EI coil and bypass the ballast(remove it) read up on Jason Grays write up on olddatsuns.com Quote Link to comment
