  1. I would but the truck didn't have a transmission in it anymore, i guess ill have to buy a new one.

    thanks a lot Datzenmike.

I do have the flywheel from the truck (6 bolt), I'm going to buy the truck clutch kit instead.

  2. My transmission on my L16 is approximately 26 inches long and my shifting pattern is

    1 3 5

    2 4 R

    and ive heard doglegs have

    R 2 4

    1 3 5

so are there different shift patterns for doglegs?

  3. ok my transmission is around 26" long, but the gears are

    1 3 5

    2 4 R

what would it off of? i've been searching like crazy for transmission identification, but cant find anything like this one.

  4. I have been inspecting it closely and and the only thing it has is the little chip from the second photograph, that being said there should be no major damage and i should just put it back together right? As long and the cam turns by hand without the rockers in place, or should i sand it?

  5. That's exactly what I thought at first, but the head doesn't show any bumps or damage from the outside and it did have the cam thrust plate and not the sprocket.

  6. Thanks Banzai510, that good to hear, so i should just sand the little chip and the line and its should be fine, right?

I should add this, this head is from a 1978 510, and i have another w58 from a 1980 720, would it be better to swap the cam from the other head?

  7. Ok I just bought a W58 peanut head on ebay and i recieved it today and found this

If you notice the camshaft moved about 1/4 of an inch back, I was wondering how this could of happen? How can i tell if something has been damaged? ex: cam, rocker arms, or cam towers?

  8. The chain may have stretched, more likely the slack side guides are worn. The oil pump doesn't drive the chain but there is a spring loaded tensioner that also is pushed out by oil pressure from behind. Replacing the chain, tensioner and guides should help. In the mean time change your oil and filter as this may bring up the low speed oil pressure enough to keep it quiet.

If interested you can also swap a high volume oil pump from a KA or Z24i motor from a D-21 Hardbody. They move 14% more oil and although the high speed pressure remains the same (because it's regulated) it does increase the low RPM pressure because of the extra 14% more oil available. My tired 300,000 Km L20B went from a hot idle oil pressure of 17 PSI to 29 PSI simply by throwing a used KA pump on it. I can't stress these enough. They are great and give you peace of mind.

They can be found on early 240sx KA24E motors. The later KA24DE used an internal pump.

'86.5 and up Z24i, KA24E and DE motors. * most common easy to find

    '80.5-'83280zx turbo automatic.

    '81-'84 Maxima LD28 diesel

I've asked at car parts stores for the high volume oil pump but no one sells them. So is the stock one for those cars a high volume already?
