    maybe the chain is stretched and needs the cam gear moved to the next postion.

    1984 720 PU engine

    Hello, i am wondering if the engine out of 1984 720 pickup would be a good block for the LZ build. I think it is the z2.2 engine. Have one in the area for a good price. If anyone knows please let me know. thanks, mike

    Bubbles in Coolant

    Ok, I did all the sugs, first I dropped a valve cover bolt down into the timing chain(da stupid) didnt have magnetic pu so I ran down to autoparts store and picked one up, came home and checked the torque on head bolts all right on 61#'s maybe one was a little off. 2nd watched air bubbles for 10 minutes or so and temp go up slower to 200 plus. Next wife said have dinner ready I am on my way home. Made and had dinner(shrimp orzo) and then did a compression test next, all 4 cyl hit 180 3&4 was about slightly lower 175. That seemed decent. Next I decide to take off the temp sensor housing from my orginal engine so it would be matched to the orginal gage. The sensor off the newer engine really stuck out into the housing and that housing sits right on top of the header. I put all that back together and moved the heater lever to on and filled it up through the thermo stat housing when that reached full I jacked the front of the car up as high ass my jackass would go, I did see a few air bubbles pop out. Next I took the 180 thermo stat and cut the nipple thinge off and stuck it in. Fired her right up and is running cool seems to low right now but I couldnt really get on it I changed chokes in the carb to smaller ones to see if the cam would come on sooner, With the bigger chokes it starts pulling around 4000rpms, I would rather have more torque down low for around town. I think with the smaller chokes it made everything else to rich. And was causing a major bog and I couldnt even feather in it. No chance to test drive after I changed the jets. Sloved one problem and onto the next.

    Hello, I just finshed my first engine swap in the 510 and it went pretty good. Only thing the newer engine is running hot. Just sitting in the drive way the temp climbs to 200-225 then I drive it climbs to 230. I flushed the 3core raditor and tried getting all the air out of the hoses, took out the theromstat. still no luck, old engine would stay around 165. While it waw sitting in driveway I took off the cap reved it up and would see bubbles going by in the coolant. Could this be a blown head gasket? Also would a blown head gasket sound like an exhuast leak. when it idles I cant hear the exhaust leek but when i drive it i can. This sucks it if is a blown headgasket, It would have been easier to replace before I swaped engines. Any other things I can check for running hot? or to see to tell if its the head gaskets.   9. I decide to go with the 200MM found out it was a roadster clutch and flywheel. It is alot lighter than the 225MM stock 4cyl clutch and flywheel setup and has heavier spring rate. Dropping the newer engine in tonight.

  11. Thank you so much for the quick response. I am going to install the the newer L20B with the 225MM flywheel, Clutch, pressure plate and throw bearing in the older dogleg tranny. Thanks, mike

I am doing a engine swap in my 510 I have an L20B with 1978 Dogleg tranny and the Clutch size is 200MM the new engine is L20B but it was mated up with newer i think 79-81 dogleg with an 225MM clutch. Question is can I use the 225MM clutch and flywheel in the older dogleg transmission. I plan on using the flywheel that on the new engine the one with the 225mm clutch. What throw out breaing should I use? Any help would be appreciated it. I got the old engine pulled and ready to drop the new one in but want to install a new clutch.

  18. On the driver side front turn signal/parking light the filament for the turn signal and parking light is on at the same time. Any clue whats up with that? On the rewire Datzen mike desc. do I put a Jumper from side light black ground? or do I cut and leave the black disconected from the side marker light. thanks,
  19. If I switch the wires from the side markers to the front parking turn signals lights, maybe my front turn signals will work.
  20. My 71 510 has blinking side lights, except the front parking lights will not blink. The side marker lights blink when I turn on the turn signal, but dont light up with the parking lights on. The front parking lights work but the turn signals dont work. Anybody had these problems before.
  21. I am trying to figure out my clutch adjustment. I have 71 510 with dogleg. The clutch disengages when the pedal is all the way to the floor. I dont have any slip but would like it disegages a little bit higher on the pedal. Do i need to adjust some freeplay at the clutch lever on the transmision? Which way would I turn the rod? Any input would be great.

  23. Man I could really use the crankcase vent tube. Mine was plugged and now I need to fugure out how to vent it. Could you ship it for $10bucks? PM me. thanks mike
  24. Any sugs on how to vent it. Running dual carbs and no provisions on running to air cleaner. Anyway the $125 engine I picked up ended up having not one but two cracked cylinders. SOL.
