  1. Too bad its ruined with that scoop and pins. Its too far from me to overlook those issues. If it was stock Id drive up there for it... theres a CL thread btw.
  2. Yeah thats my car in the first picture. Like I said... his communication sucks. You think he would call/email people back to make money. If you really want a sedan of some sort, then hold out. There are plenty out there. If you just want a 510 and like that wagon, it looks like a good one. Youd be at a great starting place to get you going. Ultimately its your choice.
  3. I was extremely lucky with mine... I did get it from your area though. Contact this guy: http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/3339573108.html Tell him what youre looking for and that I sent you. He has some great cars and should get you something you like... his communication is shady sometimes because hes a very busy guy. Just tell him youre a friend of mine and maybe that will kick his butt in gear. Well then it might have just been an exterior repaint then. If youre worried about bondo, go back and take a magnet to the car. Go around the rockers, the wheels wells, and such as those are the common areas that rust happens with these things. The magnet wont stick to the bondo. There are plenty of lowered wagons floating around. Slammed on the other hand is something different. You can bag a goon or convert it to IRS, but you can still get pretty low with the leaf suspension. Id seriously consider that wagon if it drove well.
  4. Yep. Im going to use it for my L20 install instead of custom making parts to use the BW. But I still need an engine to use so It might be a bit before I can utilize the trans. Im just getting it for the future as well as saving the column shift since its so rare. I dont want it scrapped. Those are my plans for it, but if he needs one to get his car (actually his brothers) back on the road I will pass it along to help him out.
  5. There are plenty in this area. You will find one easily... it seems there are more available (and cheaper) than even down in Cali lately. Good luck and welcome to the site. edit: thats a good looking wagon. It doesnt look repainted at all... The kick panels are still orange, the decals are still on the radiator support, and its an original Datsun color. Id snap it up (and sell me the AC pieces... I already emailed him about it, but expect no answer)

    Its all a playground ;)
  7. His is the later JATCO actually... and its going to be my transmission and column shift assembly; its a 3way deal. I would just rather not give up the trans if we can find another one in the area, but will if theres no other choice. Id rather see a Datsun back on the road than the trans sitting in my garage.
  8. I dont know anything about their swap plans other than he cant afford it right now. He just wants an auto to replace the busted one in it so he can drive it.
  9. A friend is looking for an automatic transmission to get his 510 back on the road. He doesnt have the funds for a manual conversion yet, but still needs to get the car driving. Hes not a forum guy so I said I would make a thread and see what was available. Looking for the JATCO trans out of the 1970+ cars... needs to be in good working condition and preferably around the Seattle area, but willing to travel if the deal is right. I know someone did a manual swap and has one sitting in the garage. Help get a Datsun back on the road. Thanks.
  10. Well they are pointed straight up... so even the slightest amount of water would run down into the engine.
  11. Well none of the local stores have a gasket I can use to model. I thought I had a complete gasket set in the garage, but no manifold one... Oh well, should be here tomorrow or so. Then its on!
  12. Sweet pic Casey. Too bad we didn't figure out the rack flip until after these were taken...
  13. See... like I said, all my knowledge is with forced induction. I havent owned an NA car in about 11 years. This is also my first non-AWD and first RWD is about as many years. My main plan is building the runner length to work with my filter choice. Thats not a very proper way, but its whats important to me so thats whats going to happen. Ive taken some preliminary measurements and I will have an adequate manifold based on my requirements.
  14. I didnt realize you were using internal length in your measurements; I was not. Your calculations make much more sense now... I also remove internal length since its not something you can change like you can change runner length or plenum volume. I see where youre coming from now. Oh and to answer your previous question on flange price: I will have to let you know. Once I cut a set for myself I can see how long it takes to judge a price. If people are interested I can cut a few out. I still have to make a model first before any more of that can be figured out. I think Im going to head into work today to start my model.
  15. From what I already know on custom SMIM fabrication, everything is suppose to be a specific size for a specific purpose. What is throwing me for a loop though is that all my knowledge is for turbocharged car applications. You want a large tapered intake plenum, long runners for top-end, short runners for bottom-end... but if youre just running air horns and individual carbs, not a larger plenum and a single TB... Im a little lost. The normal SMIC runner length is 6in (147mm). Thats from head to the base of the plenum. 14in (343mm) might be quite ridiculous for any kind of normal driving. Personally I want more bottom-end than top-end as well I am I going to be running a full filter assembly so I will be designing very short runners. Im in this for throttle response and not power.

  17. I refuse to cut the hood... Im going to be rocking the carbs flat and not at an angle. Are you not worried that water will get into them?
  18. Unless you're doing strong autoX or drag passes, very minimal oil goes through that system. I know plenty of people running vented PCV systems instead of vacuumed. They never have any issues. The trick is having a good can with a good internal filter/separator. An empty can is worthless...
  19. I've been thinking about making a setup like that too... I have all the pieces needed at work already. Maybe I should make a couple if you guys need them.
