xx510xx
i cant figer out if i wount to go with a sr20det, ka24de or vg30dett i want to drifft the 510 what is higher reving Quote Link to comment
oregondime
vg30dett is lots of fab work rack and pinion conv. is neccessary etc. and heavy. sr20det is lighter with high revs, and ka24de is cheapest and easiest, more torque lower rev limit, and you can always rebuild and turbo it later.. sooo sr20 id go with if you want the revs and lots of moola Quote Link to comment
Cookapoop
I am a bit partial to the FJ20 with or without a turbo.:D Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
You guys forgot about the CA18DET wow nissan has so many great engines. I have a SR and love it. One day I would Like to have a row of 510's all with different engines. Maybe even an electric one. Quote Link to comment
Twodoordime
icehouse what does it take for the ca18det? Quote Link to comment
Jason
You guys are obviously of a higher skill level than me, I'm just going for an L20b with dual SU's in my new wagon. That L16, man even I say that's weak! Quote Link to comment
Twodoordime
its basically the same swap as sr right? Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
Yep the ca is smaller so that helps. It is also cheaper and lighter. But it is basically the same install. I like both engines, my non turbo ca looked good in there. I will write more tonight gotta go back to work. Dam I hate that.... Quote Link to comment
oregondime
im goin allll ka, with plans to eventually build it into a sr eating machine Quote Link to comment
Trevor
i like my L18.:D just enough power for my liking. not enough rev as i would like, but it does fine. im deffinelty looking to get an sr though. Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
I have a KA in my truck, its a sr hauling thing :D Quote Link to comment
Bleach
I think your KA24de would rev just fine. Leaving it in NA form it'll have good torque and a predictable power band. I don't drift but I get the idea and it seems that the KA would give you the best control. Quote Link to comment
Blur510
im goin allll ka, with plans to eventually build it into a sr eating machine Cool man, I am patial to the SR myself... but the more people I talk to, the more it sounds like the KA might be the stronger motor (HP wise) I guess there really is no replacement for displacement... That should be very predictable linear power good enough for drifting. I also think the SR with S15 turbo tuned properly would give you a good balance of torque and HP. Although the turbo is not big enough for crazy HP, it should be good for drifting.. Quote Link to comment
xx510xx
i still dont have the money but i think im going with a ka24de and later put a turbo on it and yes i do always forget about the ca18det and it is kinda ogly Quote Link to comment

Also how qualified is this shop? Quote Link to comment
Jason
I was quoted $8500 at our local shop for a KA24DE swap, that's around $7000 US to you guys. Quote Link to comment

Jason
Holy cow... what does that come with? motor and what else? that seems steep to me... Motor, installation, and all peripherals, but, that's it. The shop is very reputable, Specialty Engineering, you'll have seen their cars 1 & 3 on the podium at the Nationals last year and 1 & 2, 3 years before that. They're that good. I'm not up to spending that much right now, I'm sticking with my L's for a start and perhaps I'll work up to doing the swap myself, mostly.... Sigh, sucks to be poor eh ;) ! Quote Link to comment
slodat
I think to have SE do the swap, in its entirety, that is a very fair price. They are as good as it gets. Quote Link to comment

I agree Steve, their work is first rate, oh, and that price includes a full custom 2.5" stainless exhaust too. They stand behind their work very well, you should see the serivice I get just as an ordinary "L" customer :D ! Quote Link to comment
slodat
The exhaust could easily cost $1k! It is a lot of work. Quote Link to comment
Jason
The swap is worth the money, it's just not a item that I could spend the money on right now. Shame really, but, then again, I can wait and learn in the meantime, who knows, I might get skilled enough to try it on my own! Quote Link to comment
