Drfixit
Got a 69 521 that has an L18 in it with a Weber and Electronic Ignition. Engine started running shitty so I opened the hood and started looking around it ended up being a fouled plug, black and sooty however, what I am puzzled about is the PCV hose. It collapses after the engine runs awhile. The valve cover has a vent tube that goes or is supposed to go to the air cleaner and its vented to the atmosphere so why would the carb be able to suck the PCV hose closed? The hose is kind of braided or something not rubber maybe the hose is shot? There shouldnt be any resistance in the crankcase should there? Any ideas? Thanks Doc Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That is wrong. Pull the hose off the pipe going into the side of the block. If the engine end isn't plugged, wiggle the metal pipe out of the block and see if it is plugged. Or maybe poke a piece of coat hanger wire into the pipe to see if plugged. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
The pipe that the PCV valves goes to,, where the pipe goes into the block is supposed to be a metal mesh filter (inside the block). I wonder if that is blocked somehow. Quote Link to comment
Drfixit
Ok thats sort of where I was going. I'll tear into it and let you all know whats up. Thanks- Doc Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
at idle air should be comming out of the crank case then as you rev the motor it starts to suck air IN. I would just pull the PCV out and clean it, if that. Just make sure it moves. Wiggle it. should go back and forth. hit it with carb cleaner or gas Quote Link to comment
Drfixit
Well I took off the hose and checked out the valve. I tried to put a welding rod down the metal tube but it bends quite a bit and I couldnt get it. Tomorrow I will find a 1/4" cable and try that. Quote Link to comment
