Transmission bolts?

Recommended Posts

Im in the middle of swapping out my auto trans for a 5speed in my 1980 510. I'm wondering what bolts I would need to connect the bell housing to the engine. Could I use the transmission bolts from a ca18? or sr20? or do I just need to find each bolt's pitch and length?

I imagine the CA/SR bolts are the same thread. Length would be the important thing. The top two holes are blind so you don't want bolts that are too long or they'll tighten but not be up against the transmission. Too short and there's not enough thread engagement. You should have 1.5 X the bolt width of threads engaged into the block.

Depth of the bolt hole plus the flange thickness of the joining part, minus some clearance margin.  And keeping in the guidelines of thread engagement mentioned by the two guys above.  Keep it between those max/min dimensions.
