cars.r.torture
What’s up guys. So, today I bought a 1984 720. It was doing great all day. I had stopped in a parking lot to show it off to some buddies, but when I went to leave it had trouble starting. I had to give it gas to get it started which I never had to do before. As soon as I let off the gas the truck will die. Any idea? My guess is something fuel/carb related. I am very new to Nissans/Datsuns considering I only got it today. Truck has 90,700 miles if that helps at all. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
DwayneOxford
Sounds like the idle fuel shut off solenoid lost power. Search this forum and learn. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Have someone turn the ignition to the on position (not start) the off and repeat several times while you listen near the carburetor. What you should hear is a soft clicking sound. Does it? Was it very hot out???? Quote Link to comment
Justin
A stretched chain can lead to incorrect timing which creates many other problems you normally wouldn't have to deal with. Check it with a timing light. Then you can move your sprockets like ol' Mikey sez. Edited June 15, 2023 by Justin Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If it was running that day and then not running later I doubt the chain stretched in between. Never seen a stretched chain and there is a provision on L cam sprockets to adjust the cam timing to compensate for any wear. Quote Link to comment
Thomas Perkins
Maybe clogged fuel filter or weak fuel pump.Take fuel line off at carb, put into a Mason jar and turn over and see if gas comes out real strong.Check for fuel leaks at fuel pump. Quote Link to comment
