Solid state voltage regulator for gauge cluster

Recommended Posts

I posted elsewhere that the fuel/temp gauges in my 521 are flaky and was told that I can clean the voltage regulator on the back of the gauge panel. I also found an older post where someone made a solid-state regulator but all of the picture links were broken. Would a 12V DC -to- 8VDC 1A drop-down regulator do the job? Or do the gauges need more current than that?

I found this...looks like a trivial build, and I'd include a small heatsink on the regulator IC. https://www.circuits-diy.com/12v-to-8v-converter-using-lm7808-ic/
