Steering Wheel Removal?

Recommended Posts

Searched the FAQ and didn't find anything on removing the steering wheel.

I went ahead and ordered a new turn signal assembly for my 1974 Datsun to get the blinkers working again. The part will be here Saturday.

See this thread...

Blinkers not working but blinking power coming out of the flasher

I've removed the steering wheel off of old Chevy trucks before and own a steering wheel puller, (don't think that's what it's called), and a Steering Wheel Lock Plate Remover & Installer.

Any tips or tricks I need to know about?

I'd really like to remove the steering wheel, install the new turn signal assembly and the button everything back up as smoothly as possible.

I'll do my best to document the procedure with pictures for others to use in the future.

p.s.

I did order a manual for the truck but it won't be here till next week.

:)

Though the manuals frown on this: I undo and remove the nut/loc washer and using the palms of both my hands thump the under side of the outer rim and pop it off. And NO! I didn't hit myself in the teeth with it, but YES! it was friggin' close. So be damned careful or use your puller.

2eDeYe;99017'']It will pull off with the puller the same way the chevy wheel does. Just have to remove the horn button assy and you'll see the threaded holes. Only difference is you'll need metric bolts.

That's what I was hoping for.

Thanks everyone for the help, getting tired of using arm signals!

:D
