Crytek89
Anyone know on the '84 on the steering rack if there is a bleed screw anywhere? Not seeing any mention of it in the FSM. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
720s have a power steering box not a rack. There is no bleed screw. Bleeding the power steering is done this way... 1/ Raise the front wheels off the ground. 2/ Start engine and turn wheel full lock L&R. Never hold full lock for more than a second or two. 3/ Do not rev engine or idle longer than needed. This will reduce foaming if the fluid level is low. 4/ Shut off engine and check reservoir level and top up if needed. If foamy, allow to settle and top up. 5/ Repeat 1/ 2/ 3/ 4/ until reservoir is at full line and stays there. Using the PS pump, fluid is moved through the lines and the power steering unit, flushing any air ahead of it and back to the pump reservoir and vented. Any air removed will be replaced by PS fluid and the reservoir level will drop. If the system is empty it might save time to have someone watch the reservoir level while engine is running and stop and refill before the pump foams the oil. Once the system is charged and the level stable begin the bleeding process. The Nissan pump can produce upwards of 1,100 PSI at idle 2 Quote Link to comment
weldingrod
So what you are saying is I can probably use the power steering system from a Nissan to build a wood splitter. Neat! 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Or a GM one from a '70-'90s It's like the 720 and has the pump inside the reservoir. Billions made and readily available. I bet there are 50 in every wrecking yard. 1 Quote Link to comment
