320 Newb
Any tips on getting a 320 or 520 steering wheel back together? I'm fighting the spring and can't seem to get enough room to get the horn button back in. I'm also not sure how to get the horn button pressed back in once I get the spring figured out. wayno
I don't think the spring actually goes there, and I don't think that that spring even goes anywhere in there at all, it looks way to big. If you mount the horn assembly/steering wheel and tighten the nut like you have done in the photo you posted, when you push on the chrome horn assembly the whole thing is supposed to collapse, not just the top half of the cover. This horn button is the same as the early Datsun Roadster horn assembly, maybe they have a break down on what goes where. Quote Link to comment
320 Newb
I was stupid and didn't take a picture or write notes when I took it apart a few months ago. I just took it apart and bagged all the parts. What you're saying about the spring and horn button makes sense. I'll take it back part and see if the spring sits back behind the whole chrome assembly. Quote Link to comment
320 Newb
^^^Holy cow thank you! I just got it sorted out and back together. The only thing that seems weird is the nut that holds on the wheel has to stay a little slack to allow the horn button spring up and down. If the nut is tightened down it compresses the spring and horn button down. The other thing I don't get is how the switch works when the horn is pushed. 1 Quote Link to comment
difrangia
The horn button can't stay down. When it is down from being pushed it shorts out completing the horn circuit. If the button won't return, the horn honks continually.I have to take mine back apart but am too tied up at the moment on another pressing project to get on it. Here is a link to the 320 parts manual that the steering wheel parts page came from. Lots of good bathroom study in here. http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/datsun%20320%20parts%20catalog.pdf Steve 2 Quote Link to comment
320 Newb
So apparently I put it together wrong because the horn blows constantly when the battery's hooked up. Looking at the diagram I think I might have reversed the order of the two metal plates under the horn button. I also messed something up with the turn signal switch because it worked when I mocked it up without the steering wheel but of course once but the wheel back together and on it doesn't work. I'm hoping I just crossed a wire in the wire harness or something else easy. Quote Link to comment
